Colonial
Polyps
Colonial polyps can range from colorful disks to fields of feathery
tentacles. They have a wide range of colors, from green, red, blue to yellow,
as well as, stripes and polka-dots.
In general they prefer mild flow enviroments but do benifit from occasional
stronger water flow. Due to their high density colonies they tend to trap
debris between themselves, which actually serves as a good food source,
but this can also lead to potential algae problems.
Overall they are relatively inexpensive and under good conditions can
spread out and cover large areas. |

Palythoa tuberculosa
A thick encrusting base with polyps embedded within tissue. As polyps
open up the tenticles protrude beyond its surface |

Fuzzy Mushrooms
Rhodactis sp.
Large oral disks with many small branching tenticles. Outer rim usually
has numerous tenticle like extensions. |

An encrusting purple base with numerous polyps extending from it. Each
polyp is tall, narrow and has tenticles radiating from it. As the base,
or mat, spreads new polyps extend from it. |

Silver Star Polyps
Clavularia ( Briareum ) sp.
An encrusting purple base with numerous polyps extending from it. Each
polyp is tall, narrow and has tenticles radiating from it. As the base,
or mat, spreads new polyps extend from it. |
